The theme for VBS on Day 2 was “I am the Good Shepherd.” The children thoroughly enjoyed Dan as the wolf that wanted to eat the sheep. Doug, being a fairly lazy shepherd was not much help for the poor, defenseless sheep. Pastor Stecker brought the theme together at the end of the skit reminding the children that Jesus is our good shepherd. The crafts that went along with our theme were a sheep’s mask and the group project were individual sheep that we hung on the fence to resemble a flock.
Dan and his long beard has been a source of fascination for the kids since we arrived. His acting skills as the big, bad wolf have now solidified his new role in life. He also is now known as “Wolfman.” The kids love to come up to Dan and pull on his beard, but we’re not sure who enjoys it more; Dan or the kids!
After lunch, the team went to the computer lab to begin painting. They gave us what we thought was a thin white paint. Truth be told, the members of our group were a little frustrated. We wanted the room to look nice, but it was difficult to cover the wall properly. After 2 or 3 coats of paint, we felt like it was the best we could do, but we weren’t exactly happy with it. After the fact, Richard informed us that it was only primer and we would be painting the following day. We were all relieved and had a good laugh at ourselves!
