Church service began at 8:30 and was in English and Luo. Pastor Edwin, from Point of Grace conducted the Litany, and Pastor Ruwisch gave the sermon to approximately 461 students as well as some of the community members. Additionally, 7 members of David and Josephine’s family were baptized by Pastoe Ruwisch. Baptizing 7 family members on the same day was a first for Pastor Ruwisch. “A great blessing,” he said. After church some members of the team attended the Luo service with Pastors Edwin and Ruwisch.
At a little after 2:00pm, the children who have been sponsored by members of Emanuel Lutheran and Grace Lutheran were brought to the guest house to meet us and receive the gifts that were sent. The children are shy and quiet, for the most part, but some of the older students are more able to open up. Each of them expressed gratitude for their sponsorships and for the gifts they received – to the point where it was almost embarrassing. In America, we have so much, and we often take it for granted. This was a very humbling experience for all of us. They loved seeing pictures of our families and the area we live in. They had questions about our lives, school, and jobs. 2 hours went by so quickly and before we knew it, it was time for the kids to go back for their free time and to clean up for dinner.
